Florence as a Designer

Florence is a future(s) designer-researcher, who combines foresight and speculative design methodologies to imagine how current systems may modify future(s). Primarily, her research explores the intersections between technology, science, and design.

There are endless ways to modify the future, however, Florence focuses on positive, hopeful future(s) where tech and science collaborate.

These futures emerge from her belief in 'design as 'hacking'' - which encourages interdependence within systems and methodologies. As a result, she doesn't believe in change but rather adaption and modification to imagine future(s).

As a future(s) designer, Florence's favourite is to research into bio-design, bio-technologies, and shifts in cultures. Her range of interests encouraged her to complete a wide range of courses from art history and social anthropology to strategic management and currently creative writing.

After completing her BA in Design at Goldsmiths, her passion in speculative design brought her to MA Material Futures at Central Saint Martins. Where she is researching into the current surge in biotechnologies, namely transgenics, and questioning the future of evolution.

Florence as a Human

I do not fear the future. Never have. Probably never will.

Thing is, there are so many brilliant people who have designed everything around us today. So we will definitely be able to design ourselves into a 'better' future.

This mentality probably stems from my childhood which took place in seven different countries, an experience that has led me to find comfort in the unknown and taught me that ideas are everywhere.

Nonetheless, most of my ideas emerge when near some body of moving water (ideally the ocean). The vastness of it hints at possibilities, always suppling me with curiosity and creativity to consider new connections. As a result, I am an avid advocate in further - regenerative - exploration and appreciation into the ocean and our water systems.
