PROJECTS.
LATIN VILLAGE.
Throughout this project a group of us engaged with the local community at Wards Corner Tottenham. This project was an opportunity to work in a ‘real world’ setting and directly communicate with the community, to understand how design can be used to address societal issues - including rising inequality, cost of living crisis, displacement of communities, identity etc. We focused on how we could increase the awareness of the importance of the currently closed Seven Sisters Indoor Market and re-energise the vibrancy surrounding the market. The market (also known as the Latin Village, Seven Sisters Market, Wards Corner Market) has been closed for the past five years but was a crucial hub for the local community.
We interviewed locals and researched into the culture(s) that surround the area to fully understand the campaign (supported by UNIT38, an architectual cooperative, who we completed the brief with).
We proposed different ‘mini campaigns’; we designed a set of stickers that is linked to a website that contains different stories from the traders with the goal of spread the word of the vibrant community and how the re-opening of the market would support a major part of the community.
